Your ID document is not captured here. You upload it on the next onboarding step, along with your proof of address. See Contractor Onboarding.
What you’ll need
- Your face for a quick liveness check.
- Good lighting and a working camera.
- A valid government photo ID (passport, national ID, or driver’s licence) - you upload it on the next step, not here.
How it works
Two lines, on the page itself:- Take a short selfie so we can confirm it’s really you.
- Upload your ID on the next step.
Where the camera runs
The check runs in your browser, on whatever device you are on. A laptop webcam is fine for it, and the camera component has its own start button. Underneath is a panel headed Prefer to use your phone?: “If your webcam is poor, scan this QR code (or open the link) on your phone and do the face check there. This page updates itself when you’re done.” It shows a QR code, the link in full, and a Copy link button. So the phone is an option, not a requirement. Either device can finish the check, and the page you started on notices when it is done. The camera needs a secure context (HTTPS, or localhost during local testing). Over a plain network address without HTTPS, the camera will not start.
On your phone, step by step
1
Tap Get started
The page opens on Verify your identity. Tap Get started.
2
Quick selfie check
Follow the on-screen prompts so we can confirm it’s really you.
3
Finish on your phone
You see Submitting…, then You’re all done on your phone: “We’ve got your face check. Head back to your computer to upload your ID - you can close this tab.”
Following the status
A live Status card updates on its own while the check runs:
If a session expires, use Start again for a fresh one. If you land on In review, that just means a quick manual review is happening, and you can keep setting up your account in the meantime.
Your selfie is used only to verify your identity and is stored securely. By continuing you agree to this identity check.
How verification affects getting paid
Your identity and your address are checked separately, and each moves through its own set of statuses:
Only an approved identity check is required to get paid. A rejected address does not block your payouts, though you may be asked to update your address or re-upload your proof of address. See Your Documents page. If your identity check is rejected, you’ll see the reason and a prompt to re-verify.
Keeping your verification current
An approved identity does not last forever. As its expiry approaches, your dashboard walks you through it:- About to expire: a gentle reminder to re-verify soon so your payouts aren’t interrupted. When the date is known, it’s shown.
- In a grace period: your ID has expired and you’re in a short grace period. Re-verify to keep getting paid.
- Expired: re-verify your ID to keep getting paid.
