# Holiday Calendar

> View public holidays, optional holidays, and state-specific holidays for your location.

The Holiday Calendar shows all holidays applicable to you for the current year, including national public holidays, optional holidays, and state-specific holidays based on your work location.

## Accessing the Holiday Calendar

The Holiday Calendar is not part of the employee app at the moment. This article describes it for when it returns. The calendar loads with the current year's holidays under the header "Holiday Calendar" followed by the year.

## Year Selector

Use the **year dropdown** at the top of the page to switch between years. The dropdown shows the previous year, current year, and next year.

## Holiday Types

Each holiday is tagged with a type badge so you can quickly identify its category:

| Badge | Description |
| - | - |
| **National** | Gazetted public holidays observed across India (for example Republic Day, Independence Day, Gandhi Jayanti). |
| **Optional** | Holidays where the company offers a fixed number of optional days per year. You can choose which ones to take from the available list. |
| **State** | Holidays specific to your work state (for example Ganesh Chaturthi in Maharashtra). These are determined by your registered work location. |

<Info>
  The number of optional holidays you can avail in a year is set by your employer's policy. Check with your HR team or the leave policy for the exact count.
</Info>

## Holiday List View

Holidays are grouped by month, with each month displayed as a separate card with a month header (e.g., "January 2026"). Within each month, each holiday entry displays:

* **Date:** The calendar date of the holiday
* **Holiday name:** The name of the holiday (e.g., Diwali, Holi, Eid)
* **Type badge:** National, Optional, or State-specific
* **Day of week:** Monday, Tuesday, etc. (shown on the right side)

Holidays are listed in chronological order within each month group.

## Filtering Holidays

Use the filter buttons at the top of the holiday list to narrow down what you see:

| Filter | Shows |
| - | - |
| **All Holidays** | All holidays for the year |
| **National** | Only national public holidays |
| **Optional** | Only optional holidays |

The active filter is highlighted with a green badge. State-specific holidays appear under the "All Holidays" filter.

## Holiday Count

A summary line at the bottom of the page shows "Showing X of Y holidays" where X is the filtered count and Y is the total number of holidays for the year.

<Tip>
  Plan your leave around long weekends by checking which holidays fall near weekends. Combining a day of leave with a holiday and a weekend can give you a 4-day break.
</Tip>

## Optional Holidays and Leave

The Holiday Calendar is a read-only reference. How optional holidays are applied depends on your employer's policy, including how many you can take in a year. If you need to take an optional holiday, request it through your leave flow - see [Requesting leave](/leave-management/requesting-leave). Check with your HR team for the exact optional-holiday count and process.

## State Holiday Assignment

Your state holidays follow the **work state** recorded in your employment details. If your work location changes, contact [contact@omnivoo.com](mailto:contact@omnivoo.com) so the correct state holidays are assigned.

For questions about the holiday calendar or holiday policies, contact [contact@omnivoo.com](mailto:contact@omnivoo.com).
